My First REDnesday!

I always enjoy visiting Sue at It's a Very Cherry World on Wednesdays for her REDnesday posts. Bloggers are to write a post featuring RED and then link to her blog. I first read about REDnesdays on my friend Sandy's blog, 521 Lake Street, cause Sandy is the Queen of cute red things. I've wanted to participate for a long time but have procrastinated about it...well, no more!! I'm jumping in this week with a really cute red thing of my own!! Here is a new guy I want you to meet...

I have a Santa Claus collection. Every year I choose one addition to my collection (to keep it manageable). (Last year I strayed a little and added a Lori Mitchell MRS. Claus) This year, I didn't think I would add a new guy because I didn't see anything that caught my eye until one day, while trying to get caught up on some blog visiting...I came to  Jenny Hernandez's blog...The Polka Dot Pixie..I mean come on now, even the name of her blog makes you want to go there and peek, right? In this particular post she wrote about this guy being available. As soon as I read that he was for sale I emailed Jenny. She quickly responded and said that he had been sold but graciously offered to make another one for me. I was so excited!!! To have a Santa figure of Jenny's AND a bluebird in one piece...WOW! I told her there was no rush for Christmas but she made him and he arrived several days before the 25th. I opened the box and just melted! Cuter in person than in a picture for sure! Now this is the interesting part....When David came home, I happily showed him the new addition to my collection and he commented, "He looks like your Dad." Now, my Father died in 2000 so this is one of the last pictures I have of him...taken on his 80th Birthday (he didn't always wear a crown) with our son, Michael.
Do you see the resemblance?  The cheeks? The goatee and moustache? So, in honour of my Dad, I have named the new guy George Claus....Santa's beloved brother. He's been on my kitchen island all through the holiday and I chat with him now and again. I think he's happy at our house and  it will be hard to pack him up and put him away. Thanks Jenny, you made me happier than I even imagined. I'm sure the similarity to my Dad is what made me fall in love with him when I first saw him, even on an unconscious level. Please visit Jenny's blog and look back at some of her older posts for more photos of her marvelous creations. From time to time she does offer her pieces for sale in her Etsy shop and she teaches classes all around the country. I'd love to take a class of hers some day!
OK-that's it for my first REDnesday. Hope you enjoyed meeting George. I'll be back again because I have lots of cute red things to share with you!
Have a great REDnesday...whatever you're up to!
XOXO
Joyce

I'm going to visit Jenny's blog right away - thank you for sharing her link.

Another (blog) friend of mine has been participating in Rednesday for about a year. Many times, including just this morning, I've thought about joining in. I have tons of red stuff in my house. Maybe next week!

YES I see the resemblance! He's just perfect and a bluebird, too. I have seen her bluebirds before and they are fabulous. My Joyce bluebird sat under a pink tree with a tiny pink tree in it for Christmas. I'm still astounded about it! I'm so glad to see you blogging again and am anxious to see your tags. I hope all is well with you and you're feeling better. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for your sweet message on my blog. xoxo Nancy

There is a striking resemblance between your late father and your son! Aren't genetics crazy?

Red is my mostest favoritest, bestest color....so you have to know I love your Santa.

Oh my goodness...you lucky girl!!! Jenny is one of my heroes. She and Lori Mitchell were my inspiration when trying my hand at paper mache. I only tried it once because it was SO tedious! This figurine is adorable. And it just melts my heart that he looks like your sweet daddy. : )
