Happy Halloween with Ivins and Prima

Happy Hallloween!

Only one day until the big Craft Show...I'm trying to get everything finished up today so that we can just enjoy seeing all of the kids tonight as they come around for Trick or Treat!

I wanted to show you the special Halloween card I made for my sister.

When we were little, we always looked forward to the Fall because that is when Ivins Spiced Wafers would appear in the grocery stores.

 Oh how we loved them with a cold glass of milk!

They are almost impossible to find anymore, unless you want to spend $18.95 for 2 boxes on Amazon!

Well, lucky us...every year my sister and brother-in-law take a jaunt to the New Jersey shore to visit friends and there is a grocery store there that carries Ivins!!! Barb always gets us each a few boxes and I bring mine home after we're together at Thanksgiving. David isn't so crazy about them so I don't even have to share! Ivins are one of those things that immediately take me back to my childhood.

In honor of my loving sis who always remembers, I decided to make her an extra special treat this year!

A Julie Nutting for Prima Paper Doll and Ivins Spiced Wafer Halloween card! Yup, I used the box front and built from there...

You know that I'm a "cute" Halloween person and not so much a "scary" fan. Of course, I had to add a little bling to my witch!

Today is World Card Making Day

I thought I would share a few cards today in honor of the occasion...

Jenny has a most beautiful blog and her cards are amazing and gorgeous!

I loved the elegance and the roughness at the same time.

I already had the Memory Box grapevine wreath die and the corrugated cardboard so I decided to make a variation of this card.

Instead of stars, I used red Stickles as berries on my wreath. It has a bit more primitive look but I like it and will make more of these.

If you are a Downton Abbey fan, you will understand this card I made for my friend Anne for her Birthday...we love Mr.Bates!

I love funny!

I just made and sent this Birthday tag to a long-time friend, Elizabeth, of Creative Breathing.

She has stepped back from blogging but is an incredibly talented woman and an inspiration to me and many others. I hope you had a wonderful Birthday, my friend.

Always loving the Julie Nutting for Prima paper doll stamps, I created this in Elizabeth's favorite color palette.

I am  sorry to be late posting this..

I pulled the winner's name on the 30th but didn't get back to the computer to

write about it because we had our grandsons with us for 3 days and the

computer I use is in the room they slept in.

Week 4 in the Julie Nutting for Prima Paper Doll Stamp Blog Hop...Winter

For the past 4 weeks, five crafters and myself, have been participating in the 

Julie Nutting for Prima Paper Doll Stamp Blog Hop!

Every Tuesday in August, we have each posted a seasonal project

using a Prima Paper doll Stamp.

If you leave a comment on each of the Tuesday blog posts,

I really can't believe it is the last week of August!

August in Pittsburgh has basically been the coolest month of the summer, 

of any August I can remember, actually. 

have enjoyed it immensely. 

It has been nice to have the air conditioning off and the windows open.. 

(I don't know what this means for Septemeber)

Anyway, the weeks in August have flow and so have the Four Seasons in the

Julie Nutting for Prima Paper Doll Stamp Blog Hop!

We have arrived at Winter!

I knew from the first week what I wanted to make for my Winter project.

An art board using only shades of white with some silver and some bling!

The board is 5 x 7 inches...

Materials used were: a doily, adhesive backed white felt,

Prima chiffon mini flowers, glitter cardstock, silver ribbon,

platinum ink, adhesive rhinestones by Recollections,

Sizzlet by Sizzix die cut snowflakes, dimensional tape, 

Copic markers and of course

Scamp. 

I mentioned last time that Scamp was a wood-mount Hero Arts stamp that

I didn't think was available any longer. My friends Diane and Cheryl have alerted

me that Scamp is now available as part of a clear stamp set

 and the set can be found on eBay here for $4.99!

I also asked if you could guess another theme besides using Scamp in every project...

I chose to use all little girl stamps in my 4 Seasons projects.

I have all of the Prima Paper doll Stamps but limited

myself to the little girl stamps...they worked better with the pup! :D 

Well, we've come to the end of the year and I must say

that this is the most creative fun I've had for a while!

The other women who are participating in this Blog Hop

are all wildly gifted and I have enjoyed getting to know them

and seeing their work. I hope you have, too.

Week 3 in the Julie Nutting for Prima Paper Doll Blog Hop...FALL!

I love the Fall.....the cooler temperatures,

the colors of the leaves before they drift from their branches,

the smells of apples and pumpkin pie,

the return of football games...and of course, hockey.

This week, our focus is on

Fall/Autumn

Before I reveal my project, I want to remind everyone about

OK, no long tutorial this week. I thought I would share, in pictures, 

the evolution of a project.

You start with the elements you want to use...

A decision is made on the size of your project, based on the number and size of the items

 you're including,  This week's project board is 5.5" x 8".

I started with a Cheerios box cutout and covered it in background paper...

then, you decide on a layout...this can change as you start working it...

I knew I wanted rolling hills, a pumpkin, sunflower, Bingo card,

wagon, and of course the dog, whom I've named Scamp!

This was my first layout...

This is what it became...

Did you notice that in the first layout, I used a marker to color her 

turtleneck and sleeves? Hated the look! Stamped the neck, sleeves and pockets 

in the brown polka dot paper.

Thanks to the brilliance of Mary Puskar, I brazenly cut her feet apart

to enable me to cut away the paper between her legs without

needing to use a craft blade.Thanks, Mary!

the details...

I stamped the doll on printed paper this time...I really like her with red hair.

Hard to believe that Fall is a month away!

The wagon was cut using the Cricut Cartridge, 

"Just Because" cards.

Several people have asked me about The stamp I used for Scamp.

He is a wood-mount Hero Arts stamp. I've had

this stamp for years and I looked on-line to try to find a link but 

I'm sorry, I couldn't find it anywhere.

The pumpkins is a Quickutz die and the the leaves were punched.

Several years ago I was on a Design Team for Say It With Letters, a 

company that makes wood cut letters and shapes.

 You can find their Etsy shop here. Their products are of  high quality and

lots of fun to work with.

I did a Fall project for them, posted here, using my favorite

 WeR Memory Keepers Autumn Splendor papers.

I used some of those same papers on my project today.

Week 2 in the Julie Nutting for Prima Paper Doll Stamp Blog Hop!!!

If you've known me, for even a short time, you know that I

am a banner maker. I make them for friends, for gifts,

custom banners for babies and baby showers,

and I also sell them at several Craft Fairs in our area.

I love banners and I love making them!

Some folks call them garlands but whatever you call them, I love them.

I knew that one of these projects for the Blog Hop would involve a banner/garland

and it's this week's subject, SUMMER! 

The paper was an easy choice...

Simple Stories Summer Fresh papers...

Happy papers in the 6x6-inch paper pad to use for clothing

Journaling blocks in the 12x12-inch papers to cut 

apart and use as banner panel backgrounds.

Cardstock stickers for embellishment

(I'm not a big sticker user but these are just too cute to ignore!)

Step one is stamping the doll...

I used a light tan cardstock because it is Summer...
just a light tan because she always remembers to use sunscreen
Because I wanted her to be sturdy,

I glued her to cardboard for stability and cut her out...

I try to Recycle...I use cereal boxes and cracker boxes...they are heavy enough

to add the needed heft to the doll

Then, stamp and cut those areas being paper-pieced.

Who wouldn't like yellow gingham hair?

I stamped and cut the entire dress in the red dot and

then stamped and cut the over-skirt in the blue print

Then, the banner pieces...

Each banner piece is a 4"x 6.5" piece of red cardstock, backed by a
4"x 7" piece of white cardstock.

After I attached the white piece, I used my scissors
with a scalloped edge to trim close to the red paper.

Using two layers of cardstock ensures a stronger banner piece.
To the red cardstock I added the journaling cards cut from the 12" x 12" sheets
of patterned paper. The journaling cards are each 4" x 6".
Using the Alphalicious Cricut Cartridge, I cut the
letters to spell s-u-m-m-e-r and added them to the journaling cards.
The last thing was placing the cardstock stickers on some of the
banner peices to embellish them.
Here's the finished banner.

Rather than punch holes and string ribbon through the banner pieces, I chose
to use rough twine (mine comes from Home Depot!) and
small clothespins that have been sprayed white.
Here is the detail...
