Finally....a giveaway for 100+ followers!

Hi Everyone~
I promised a giveaway when I reached 100 followers and then I took some time off and went to visit our Grandson Charlie and our son Eric and daughter-in-law, Jane. We had a super fun time and I have some really funny pictures to share with you a little later but I can't make you wait any longer for this giveaway!!!
I am at 103 followers so this giveaway is in honor of those who have been following me for a while and new followers, too. Just leave a comment telling me that you already follow or you've just signed up and that makes you eligible. What will you win? Well, so far I have 2 prizes but I'm sure I'll add some surprises to the pot. For now, let's start with one of my favorite books...

I've written before about my love for paper dolls when I was young. I could spend hours and hours carefully cutting out all of the dresses and accessories, being extra careful around the tabs used to hold the clothes on to the paper doll's body. Some times I traced around the dolls and made my own clothes for them. In the 50's and early 60's paper dolls sets were abundant. Movie stars, royalty figures, babies, brides...so many kinds to choose. My favorite, all-time paper doll, was Katy Keene, who started out in comic book form. Katy had a 10 inch waist and 10 inch high heel shoes and long hair and eyelashes...I thought she was beautiful!

This book called Artful Paper Dolls by Terry Taylor is a great reference book for some of the history of paper dolls and also a guidebook to making modern paper dolls for art projects.

There are even templates in the book for making your own paper dolls.

Did I ever tell you that when I was born (in 1949-yikes!), my delightfully imaginative older sister actually named me for her favorite paper doll? She had a set of "teenage" paper dolls with boys and girls and "Joyce" was her favorite because she had the most clothes. (I've tried to explain to David that this was like receiving an ancient curse and that is why I like shopping but he didn't buy that at all!) I have looked on Ebay many times for sets like my sister had and I've seen them priced out of my range. Mary Lou (House of Whimsey) directed me to the Vintage Paper Doll website which is very interesting. The paper doll sets found there are reproduction but I may have to go that direction if I can't find them any other way.
So, Terry Taylor's book is one of the prizes and another prize will be this clever spoon handle bracelet...

I found this at an antique/flea market. If you bought a bracelet the seller gave you your choice of charms. I thought the scissors were real cute. The clasp is magnetic which makes putting it on by yourself a breeze.

Two prizes (so far) to show my appreciation for your visits and the comments you leave. I have said many times that I've come in contact and developed great friendships with some wonderful women through blogging. Woman in different parts of the country and out of the country, young women, women my age and older...I love you all. You have brightened my days and given me wonderful support. I am so happy to have this opportunity to say thank you for always making me feel welcomed into your lives. Id love to give you all a hug but that isn't possible so I hope you will enjoy these tokens of my affection.

So...go right ahead and sign up to win, and check back often as I will add some other items as well.
Remember to let me know if you are already a follower or you've just signed up to follow.
I will announce the winner on Friday, June 11 around 9 PM EST
If you're a paper doll lover too, tell me your favorites.
xoxo
Joyce

Well congrats Joyce!!! And yes, I remember the paper dolls and cutting them out. My brother's girlfriend used to like to sit with me and cut them out, but then she would not play with them...imagaine! :) I think I love them more now that I am an adult...I have gotten a couple sets from the site you mentioned above...the more colorful and vintage the better! :) Thanks for having this giveaway and I love both of the prizes already!!!!

Hi Joyce,
I'm so glad you got to visit your sweet Charlie!!! We'll look forward to some of the photos you took on your trip.
My sister, June, recalls having some Angela Cartwright paper dolls when she was young. How interesting that Angela now often contributes to the Somerset Studio magazine and is quite an artist. I loved her in 'Lost in Space'. : )
Take care,
Mary Lou

Congratulations! I too loved playing with paper dolls, I am one of 7 children and 5 are girls so we had to take turns on who got the McCalls Betsy Paper doll in Moms magazine each month. My sister's and I would play paper dolls for hours at a time. I remember one of our favorites was called The dozen Cousins, they were darling kids with so many clothes to cut out. We were very good at cutting out them to perfection.
I love your goodies you are offering and I sure hope to win. I am a follower now! Hugs, Diane

I am a follower and I love paper dolls. I do not have any :( I also loved those magnetic doll sets from the 70's. My baby sister had a Raggedy Ann & Andy set that I was soooo wishing was mine at the time! I could sit for hours dressing and redressing.

Joyce, congratulations on reaching the milestone 100 followers! Actually 114 now, since I just started to follow you too. I found you through Elizabeth's blog. She had the cutest teenage paper dolls in her post that she though were similar to the ones your sister had. I collect paper dolls too. It started when my grandmother send me a birthday card with a paper doll to cut out. I still have that doll and all of her clothes. I need to do a post on her, and some of the other paper dolls I have collected over the years.
Anyway, I would love to be entered in your giveaway. And now I am going to go look at some of your older posts.

What a great giveaway. I am now a follower. I have found a few sites where people do stuff with paper dolls. What a wonderful thing. My mom use to get me to cut dolls out of magazines the way she did. She would have loved all of these great ideas.

Hi Joyce. It's been so nice to have you always visiting my blog and to get to know you. Paperdolls I love them. I was born in 41 and I remember some movie star paperdolls but I'm not sure which ones now. Betty Grable I think was one of them. We loved simple things in those days didn't we. Now there is just too much of everything. My great nephew is telling me of the birthday celebration for his son, goodness things going on all day. I remember having only one birthday party in my whole childhood and my Mom told everyone No Presents !
I must look into that paper doll book too.
Take Care
Nan

Congratulations! I've been a follower of your blog for a little while now. I'm pretty sure I found you via Creative Breathing. (Elizabeth knows all the best blogs.)
I have always loved paper dolls. When I was small, I could be occupied for hours with a pair of scissors and my paper doll books. I guess I was outgrowing paper dolls about the time we moved. (I was 9 1/2) I don't think my paper dolls ever made it to the new house. I sure wish I had them now.

...if you are intersted in seeing it, hop on over to see me and check it out!
Have a great weekend,

Hi, I'm a new follower. I loved paper dolls as a kid and have a small collection now. I still love them (the older ones especially).

One day, many years ago, my sister, my cousin and I were playing paper dolls in the back yard and a small dust devil swooshed by and picked up all our paper dolls and clothes and blew them all over the yard! Of course, we had fun running around screaming and laughing and picking everything up.

Congrats on 100 plus followers. Please enter me in your fabulous giveaway.

I love a good giveaway!!
My favorite paper dolls were Annette and Shirley Temple! I had a baby doll set too. My mom's friend used to save the Betsy McCall paper dolls for me...I remember that she would bring them to me in a large envelope. I also waited (sort of) patiently for my mom to finish with the Sears & Roebuck catalog. I'd cut out paper families and house. Great fun!

Congratulations on all your followers ~ I am delighted to be one of them!
